According to la Vanguardia on March 1, the recent mobile World Congress (MWC), a global mobile technology event, has become a showcase for many cars. It makes sense that today's cars are like mobile phones on wheels.
The arrival of 5G has given robots a higher profile at the congress. This data communication technology can now be used to control the robot remotely, with very low delays between receiving signals and responding.
Telefonica showed off two robots at the MWC booth. One of them is the 5G bartender robot, a robot waiter developed by Telefonica in partnership with three other companies that can serve customers three drinks: juice, wine, or cocktails.
The robot is designed for restaurants during peak ordering hours. Users can order food on the screen while standing in front of the robot. Cameras have recognition capabilities and ARTIFICIAL intelligence technology allows robot servers to know which drinks customers prefer.
Another robot Telefonica showed off was the famous Spot robot from Boston Dynamics. It can be used for monitoring and security tasks in real business environments that are designed to prevent humans from performing these tasks over long periods of time, at long distances, or in some dangerous situations.
Another Spot device is the "Mechanical Dog" by IBM and Boston Dynamics, which was displayed in another room. The agile robot can climb and descend hills and traverse rough terrain with ease.
Very similar to the Spot robot is Xiaomi's CyberDog Bionic quadruped robot, which was introduced last year and debuted at MWC.
