Abb has entered into a strategic partnership agreement with Swiss startup Sevensense, which emerged from ETH Zurich's ribs in 2018 to enrich ABB's mobile autonomous roboticsofferings with artificial intelligence (AI) and 3D visual mapping. The technology will provide customers with unprecedented flexibility as mobile robots will be able to move autonomously in complex dynamic environments, indoors and outdoors, in close contact with people.
Following the acquisition of ASTI Mobile Robotics, a leading AMR manufacturer, announced in July 2021, the collaboration marks another important step in ABB's strategy to develop the next generation of flexible automation and expand its robotics and automation products. The partnership includes an investment by ABB Technology Ventures, the venture capital arm of ABB, in a minority stake in Sevensense and is expected to be completed by November 2021.
