On June 23, International Olympic Day, the Beijing Winter Olympic Organizing Committee officially released the "Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games and Winter Paralympic Games Low Carbon Management Program", which will actively take measures to strengthen institutional innovation, promote the application of low-carbon technology demonstration, carry out international cooperation to address climate change, effectively control greenhouse gas emissions, and strive to make the Beijing Winter Olympic Games an important platform and window for China to showcase itself as a participant, contributor and leader in the construction of global ecological civilization.
The 24th Winter Olympic Games and the 13th Winter Paralympic Games were jointly organized by Beijing and Zhangjiakou, the first time China hosted the Winter Olympics. The Winter Olympics will be held in Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou, of which Zhangjiakou involves 3 major groups and 8 venues (4 competition venues: Genting Ski Park, Ski Jumping Center, Cross Country Skiing Center, Biathlon Center, 4 non-competition venues: Award Plaza, Olympic Village, Mountain Broadcast Center, Mountain Press Center), hosting cross country skiing, ski jumping, snowboarding, freestyle skiing, Nordic biathlon, biathlon 6 major categories of events, output all 109 gold medals in 51 pieces.
The head of the Planning and Construction Department of the Beijing Winter Olympic Organizing Committee said, "The Beijing Winter Olympics has been focusing on the practice of Agenda 2020 and practicing the concept of sustainability, not only green, but also focusing on the post-competition use of venues, which fits in with the long-term goals of local development. From site selection, design, construction, delivery, removal to post-competition use, the whole process is based on the interconnectedness and co-design of the competition and post-competition."
In addition to the integration of "sustainable" elements, the current Winter Olympics design thoroughly implement the concept of green development, the first is to achieve 100% supply of clean energy power. According to media reports, from July 1 this year, the National Stadium (Bird's Nest), the National Aquatics Center (Water Cube) and the first batch of seven Beijing Winter Olympic venues and supporting services will be the first to use green electricity. Next, 100% of the electricity used in the venues during the Winter Olympics test matches and official competitions will be powered by clean energy.
The Beijing Winter Olympic Organizing Committee will use low-carbon energy, build low-carbon energy demonstration projects such as the Zhangbei flexible DC power network, establish a cross-regional green power trading mechanism applicable to the Beijing Winter Olympics, and comprehensively achieve 100% renewable energy to meet the venues' regular power consumption needs.
At the same time, the Beijing Winter Olympic Games will build low-carbon venues, construct demonstration projects for ultra-low energy consumption venues, promote low-carbon and energy-saving construction and renovation of venues, strengthen intelligent management of energy consumption and carbon emissions for venue operation, use new refrigerants such as carbon dioxide to reduce carbon emissions, and strive to achieve low-carbon energy and water conservation standards for all venues.
The Beijing Winter Olympic Organizing Committee will also build a low-carbon transportation system, use low-carbon engineering technologies to carry out the construction of transportation facilities, apply intelligent transportation systems, vigorously develop green and low-carbon travel modes, and basically achieve clean energy vehicle security for transportation services within the competition area during the Winter Olympic Games. In addition, the Winter Olympics Organizing Committee will promote the establishment of low-carbon management accounting standards for the Beijing Winter Olympics, promote forestry carbon sequestration projects, encourage Olympic-related enterprises to donate emission quotas, promote carbon inclusion projects, and attract diversified social sectors to participate in low-carbon Winter Olympics actions.
The relevant person in charge of the Planning and Construction Department of the Beijing Winter Olympic Organizing Committee said that the use of green electricity in the Beijing Winter Olympic venues is not only a powerful measure to implement the concept of "Green Olympics" and fulfill the commitment of the bid, but also an important role in promoting the development of China's clean energy industry and serving the construction of ecological civilization.
