AES Chile submitted an environmental impact assessment (EIA) to the country's environmental impact assessment agency earlier this month (EIA).
The project is located in the Anto Fargasta in the Atkama Desert area. It is equipped with a 379MW solar photovoltaic power station with a 542MW/2710MWH battery energy storage system.
The project will need to build a 220kV high -voltage line, transport the power to the Monte Mina transformer station, and then inject the National Electric System.
According to the EIA file submitted by AES, if it is approved, the project will begin construction on January 10, 2024, and may be launched in the first quarter of 2028. The company is expected to invest $ 710 million.
This is the second project submitted by AES Chile in one month. A landscape storage project was released in February this year, with energy storage energy exceeding 3gWh. In the same month, developers Fodowatio Renewable Ventures and OENERGY submitted EIAs with a total 500MW battery energy storage project. At the end of 2022, ENGIE Chile ordered a 638MWH BESS from SUNGROW to a solar+energy storage project in Anto Fargasta. A few weeks ago, COLBUN, a public institution company, started the first 800MW battery storage. Energy project.
In October 2022, Chile passed a bill to encourage the deployment of energy storage and electric vehicles. This trend has accelerated and released a large number of large energy storage projects with renewable energy.
