Exports of the battery industry are blocked, and domestic companies urgently need technological upgrades

According to the latest data released by Chinalight.com, from January to July 2016, the cumulative export value of my country's battery industry increased by -3.20% year-on-year, of which the export value in July increased -5.46% year-on-year. It can be seen from the industry data published by my country's Industry Information Network that in the first half of 2016, my country's battery exports both decreased in quantity and value compared with the same period last year. my country is the world's largest battery producer and exporter, and the export of battery products will have a negative impact on the development of my country's battery industry.

Countries intensively introduced new battery regulations and strict technical standards for the industry

As people pay more attention to the environment and health, the environmental protection supervision of traditional batteries in various countries has been continuously upgraded, and a series of new technical and safety regulations for batteries and related products have been introduced: according to the relevant regulations of Vietnam, since 2016 From October, Vietnam will enforce battery technical standards. Except for separately exported lithium-ion batteries, all communication products such as mobile phones and tablet computers must meet the whole machine certification while their built-in lithium-ion batteries must be tested by local institutions; The European Union stipulates that from December 31 this year, the cadmium content of portable batteries and accumulators of wireless power tools sold and used in the EU market shall not exceed 0.002%; Japan will also start to strengthen the mercury-containing products in January 2018. Control, except for zinc silver oxide button batteries with a mercury content of less than 1% and zinc-air button batteries with a mercury content of less than 2%, other mercury-containing battery products will be restricted from production and import, and cannot be used as accessories for other products.

After these new regulations are officially implemented, if Chinese battery companies want to export products, they have to upgrade their technology to meet the safety and environmental protection requirements in the new regulations. Coupled with the increase in testing costs and transportation costs, battery companies have to face The situation of increased product costs.

The quality of export products has been repeatedly criticized. Domestic companies urgently need technological upgrades

At the end of 2015, the United Kingdom confiscated 15,000 balance vehicles on the grounds of battery fire hazards; in February 2016, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that a large number of balance vehicles in my country were recalled due to frequent lithium-ion battery fire accidents; the United States, Canada In July of this year, a recall of over 700,000 units of our domestically-made balance vehicles was also carried out... In addition to the potential safety hazards in batteries that hindered the export of balance vehicles, in the first May of 2016, my country’s exported batteries were returned abroad due to quality problems. There were more than a hundred incidents of luck, a sharp increase of nearly 40% year-on-year.

my country's lithium battery products are facing export difficulties due to safety factors. If they want to pass foreign standards, they still need to overcome safety technical barriers and improve their own product quality. In the recent Shanghai Quality Supervision Bureau's special risk monitoring for electric balance car batteries, only one of the 20 samples passed all the tests. It can be seen from the test results that the safety performance and quality of my country's lithium battery-related products are worrying, and the technological upgrade of battery companies cannot be delayed.

In addition, traditional batteries such as nickel-cadmium batteries and accumulators are affected by the environmental protection policies of various countries, and their market scale is gradually shrinking. At present, the market share of traditional batteries is gradually being replaced by lithium-ion batteries, but the company wants to achieve technological transformation, and higher technical thresholds and capital investment have become problems that the company must solve.

Relevant inspection and quarantine departments also remind battery export companies to pay close attention to the latest developments in battery safety and environmental protection and other technical barriers abroad, strengthen information exchanges with professional institutions and competent authorities, grasp market opportunities, and strictly carry out corresponding inspections and certifications.

The media believes that environmental protection is a global trend. Battery export companies should increase R&D efforts to develop safer and more environmentally friendly new batteries. Related electrical appliances companies should gradually replace traditional batteries with new types of batteries such as lithium batteries and adopt more effective safety protection measures. Reduce the safety risks of lithium batteries. In addition to strengthening certification for battery companies, manufacturers of electric tools and balance bikes that use batteries as accessories must also strengthen quality controls to prevent trade disputes caused by batteries that do not meet foreign quality and safety regulations.
