According to South Korea "Asia Daily" micro-blog on December 12 news, following LG Electronics, Hyundai Motor, Samsung Electronics also began to take the field of robot development express. According to industry sources on Monday, Samsung Electronics has changed its robot Business Support Task Force (TF), which was established less than a year ago, into a robot business team and will operate as another permanent department of Samsung Electronics. The move shows that Samsung Electronics intends to commercialize robotics and create a dedicated division to generate revenue for the company.
LG Electronics has identified the robot business as a core new business in the future. It has set up a robotics business center and a Robotics Pioneering Research Center at THE BS business headquarters to develop new products and conduct patent research. In 2017 and 2018, it acquired ROBOT companies SG Robotics and Robostar to launch robot products in various fields including guidance, delivery and catering.
In addition, Hyundai Motor has also entered the robot business earlier. In June this year, Hyundai Motor invested about 1 trillion won (5.395 billion yuan) to acquire Boston Dynamics, a robotics company. Through Boston Dynamics, Hyundai Motor Group plans to develop robots that can work with humans in manufacturing, logistics and construction industries.
The industry expects that the robot market will grow rapidly as the importance of the robot industry increases. The global robotics market was valued at $24.5 billion in 2017 and will grow at an average annual growth rate of 32% to reach $177.2 billion by 2025.
Samsung Electronics announced in August that it would invest 240 trillion won over the next three years to develop semiconductors, biology, communications, AI and robotics. Samsung Electronics is expected to become another promising company in the robot industry, following LG Electronics and Hyundai Motor.
