Recently, the French power giant Engie acquired the 6GW solar energy and battery energy storage project of Belltown Power in the United States, and continued to consolidate the U.S. project in Engie.
These 33 projects include 2.7GW solar energy, 0.7GW solar energy-energy storage and 2.6GW independent battery energy storage systems. These projects are distributed in ERCOT, PJM, MISO, and WeCC power markets in the United States.
As of June 2022, ENGIE's North American installed capacity has reached 3.9GW. The acquisition perfectly explains the strategy of accelerating renewable energy investment in the key market.
In April this year, Engie acquired the US business of Photosol, which is also a French developer, including 17 early solar energy and energy storage projects. The acquisition of Belltown has greatly strengthened ENGIE's renewable energy project in the United States, while the 4GW Photosol transaction pushed it to double digits.
Energy-Storage reported that as of November last year, Belltown Power has sold about 14 projects of about 2.5GW. The sale shows that in the past 12 months, the photovoltaic and energy storage developers in Texas have achieved significant growth.
