Iranian authorities will select development proposals from domestic and foreign investors for solar projects ranging from 10 MW to 250 MW. The selected developers will receive a 20-year power purchase agreement with a fixed tariff subsidy.
The Iranian Renewable Energy and Power Efficiency Organization (SATBA) revealed that 85 developers have been pre-selected to enter the final stage of the tender for 4 GW of PV capacity.
The work started in April, and a total of 106 bid proposals were received.
SATBA "has identified 152 construction sites in 30 provinces across the country and presented them to investors in a packaged portfolio of 95 power station construction projects. It is worth mentioning that the minimum capacity of the projects identified in the tender is 10 MW, The maximum capacity is 250 MW.”
The selected developers will receive a 20-year power purchase agreement with a fixed tariff subsidy. The tender is part of a plan recently announced by the Iranian Energy Ministry. They will install 10 GW of renewable energy over the next four years, in line with a larger plan to deploy 30 GW of power generation capacity.
Iran now has about 1 GW of installed renewable energy capacity, of which solar power totals about 456 MW. According to the International Renewable Energy Agency, Iran's newly installed photovoltaic power generation capacity from 2019 to 2021 is about 90 MW, 50 MW and 26 MW, respectively.
