It is understood that LG Energy Solution Ltd. will supply Japanese commercial vehicle maker Isuzu Motors with batteries worth about 1 trillion won or more to advance Isuzu's truck electrification project.
LG New Energy is reportedly working with Isuzu to supply batteries to Isuzu for four years starting next year, starting with an electric version of Isuzu's best-selling Elf truck.
Isuzu has sold 2,000 Elf trucks since it was first sold in South Korea in 2017. Late last year, Isuzu said it would transition to electric vehicles.
Isuzu will start mass production of Elf electric trucks using LGES cylindrical batteries at its plant in Fujisawa, Kanagawa Prefecture, starting next year. The 3.5-ton truck has a power of 150 kW and a range of 150 km on a single charge, making it suitable for short-distance product deliveries. Isuzu plans to produce 10,000 Elf trucks a year, including hybrids, by 2030.
