The Nepal Electricity Authority has announced that it will achieve 100% electricity supply by 2024, well ahead of the 2030 target set in Sustainable Development Goal 7. ''Sustainable Development Goal 7'' is one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by the UN General Assembly in 2015 to "ensure access to affordable, reliable and sustainable modern energy for all".
According to the Nepal Electricity Authority, the profit of the Electricity Authority was 16.16 billion rupees, up from 6.1 billion rupees in the 2020/21 fiscal year. Meanwhile, Nepal added 735 MW of electricity; installed power capacity increased to 2,189.6 MW, including 2,075.4 MW of hydro, 54.8 MW of solar, 6.0 MW of cogeneration, and 53.4 MW of thermal power; construction 455 kilometers of transmission lines above 66 kV have been installed, and now has 5,329 kilometers of transmission lines; 10 new areas have been added to the national power grid, and the number of fully electrified areas has reached 42; the number of electricity users has reached 4.77 million, including rural communities. 550,000 people; electricity sales to India hit a record high of 3.88 billion rupees, which may be a key medium for Nepal to prevent foreign exchange reserves from drying up.
