Nidec ASI will deploy 1.35GW/5.4GWH battery energy storage project in Italy

Nidec ASI, a Japanese enterprise group Nidec and Italian industrial solution provider, recently signed a contract to deploy a 5.4GWH battery energy storage system in Italy.

It is reported that an unnamed company has granted Nidec ASI with a contract with 18 energy storage systems, with a total scale of 1.35GW/5.4GWh.

Six of these battery energy storage systems will be deployed on Sardine, and the remaining 12 battery energy storage systems will be deployed in northern Italy. The Italian national transmission network network is divided into six regional power grid departments for its continent. The central northern region is one of them, while the island and Sicily are one of the two separate power grid areas.

Nidec ASI said that these energy storage projects will be constructed with 372 module energy storage units, which will be deployed and opened in January 2024.

The company added that in order to deliver these battery energy storage systems, three Italian energy storage system production factories and a French factory will be produced within 8 to 10 months. The manufacturing, wiring operation and assembly of the energy storage system will be completed at the CiniSello BALSAMO factory. The inverter will be produced in the Montebello Vicentino factory. The auxiliary and control system will be produced in the French Roche-La-Molière factory.

This move is a response to the EU's RepowerEu policy. The European Union is committed to achieving decarbocarbon targets and set up 45%renewable energy targets by 2030.

The battery storage unit delivered by Nidec ASI will help Italy's power grid integrate more renewable energy, can store power when energy is sufficient, and discharge when the most needed. The duration of 4 hours is the mainstream choice of Italy's deployment of large -scale battery energy storage systems.

Power grid operator TERNA currently has a 50MW/250MWH energy storage portfolio, and Ingeteam, headquartered in Spain, recently announced that it plans to deploy a 340MWH battery energy storage system with a duration of 4.8 hours next year.

Nidec ASI is one of the world's largest battery energy storage system integrators. Currently, the 1.6GW battery energy storage system has been deployed in 21 countries. The company also ranks among the top ten in the ranking of the 2021 battery energy storage system integrators released by the research agency IHS Markit.
