Portugal starts the first solar hydrogen plant

The Portuguese Fuel and Ballard Power Company jointly announced that the H2évora Factory was successfully put into production in Portugal. The network pilot project is expected to produce 15 tons of green hydrogen per year.

The Portuguese Fuel has connected its green hydrogen factory to Portuguese éVora's grid. The project was the first facility for green hydrogen to be successfully debugged into green hydrogen.

The H2évora pilot project includes the company's 15 HEVO solar hydrogen generators. These generators are expected to produce 15 tons of green hydrogen per year. The generator is equipped with a small proton switching film (PEM) electrolytic groove, which is installed on the back of the high concentration solar (CPV) panel.

The facility includes a 200 KW FCWAVE fuel cell module. The module is provided by Ballard Power, a headquarters in Canada, and is mainly used to convert green hydrogen to electricity and enable Fusion Fuel to sell power to the grid during the peak of power demand. H2évora includes hydrogen purification, compression and storage system. It has been operating since the end of 2021 and is now connected to Portugal grid.

In August of this year, Fusion Fuel received 10 million euros ($ 9.9 million) for funding for the development of 6.6 MW HEVO industrial green hydrogen projects in Sinish, Portugal. The project will be equipped with 300 solar hydrogen generators.
