Recently, Russia’s Zhukovsky Air Force Academy of Sciences announced that it has developed a new type of reconnaissance robot. A prominent external feature of the robot is its small size and the ability to disguise itself as a stone.
This reconnaissance robot was developed and assembled by the students of the Voronezh branch, and the entire research and development work lasted three years. The tactics and technical parameters of this type of robot have not been announced. It is only known that its walking device is a crawler type. It can collect, process and transmit information within 15 hours, and it can stay in a "sleep state" for a long time and trigger movement. When the sensor is activated. It is equipped with a camera, and other monitoring equipment can also be installed.
The data from the robot's camera is transmitted to the operator's console, which can be located up to 2 kilometers away from the complex. As the developers explained, the use of such intelligence-gathering robots may be for reconnaissance during trench warfare or stalemate phases of military conflicts, such as the Donbass contact line. The launched robot can locate and secretly observe the enemy without being exposed.
It is reported that the trainees got their inspiration for the development of this robot from actual combat in Syria. The development of the robot was carried out under the supervision of the Science and Technology Committee of the Russian Federation General Administration of Combat Training. This shows that the Russian army has a high interest in this robot. It is not clear whether this type of robot will be officially adopted by the Russian military in the near future, but as pointed out by the academy, there is no similar intelligence and reconnaissance equipment in the Russian armed forces today.
