The bottleneck faced by the recycling of power batteries for secondary use.

First, on August 6, BAK battery and Southern Power Grid Service Co., Ltd. built a park gradient energy storage power station project officially operated, which is the first domestic battery pack gradient use of landed energy storage project. Immediately after, on August 8, BAIC New Power and Mercedes-Benz Power GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler AG, established a technology development partnership to set up a battery ladder use energy storage system in China and integrate the relevant resources of both sides in the value chain and industry chain to layout the future power ecological handling industry, and both sides plan to set up the first battery ladder use energy storage unit in Beijing.


Following the deep development of the new power car industry chain, the gradient use around the power battery is continuing to ferment. In the international, BMW, Nissan and other early action in the field of new power car car companies are not in the early stage of the layout of power battery ladder use.

 

Although all parties are enthusiastic about funding, the relevant state departments are also actively promoting the use of power battery ladder, but there are still some problems need to deal with. The biggest doubt is that the ideal way of gradient use - energy storage, which has high requirements for battery life and performance, but the retired power batteries from different vehicles may not reach its requirements. Generally large energy storage system has a large demand for batteries, because the batteries often come from different vehicles, if you can not understand the real state and cycle life of these batteries from different ways, not only will affect the effect of energy storage, and even there will be security risks. And, at that time, it was considered the most practical method is to disassemble the power battery pack into a single unit, to test and acknowledge the performance before using it consistently as energy storage. In this process, disassembly, testing, assembly process is not only time-consuming and costly, as a single recovery body of a particular enterprise is difficult to complete independently. At the same time, now the power battery structure of each enterprise is different, ternary batteries, lithium iron phosphate, even lithium manganese acid and other different structures of the battery is not only different in performance, its life expectancy is also very different, these are the barriers that need to be crossed in the gradient use.


Why are car companies and related enterprises so keen on the use of power battery ladder? The key lies in the value of secondary use. Generally speaking, after the power battery decay to 80% will not be able to meet the requirements of power for the new power car, have to face screening. If the battery also has 80% of the power and thousands of cycles life in the case of direct scrap recovery, there is a great waste of resources, so how to play the value of retired power battery has become the focus of attention, but also by enterprises as an effective way to reduce costs and increase efficiency, and even become the emerging business of some enterprises to increase revenue. Previously, the BAIC Group carried out the power battery gradient use project through its BAIC Penglong. It is reported that the first phase of this project is planned for the secondary use of retired power batteries; the second phase is planned for the recovery and treatment of used power batteries and resourcefulness, with a proposed investment of 1.2 billion yuan, which will have an annual processing capacity of 400,000 sets (about 100,000 tons) of used power batteries and the production capacity of 20,000 tons of ternary cathode material precursors after completion. This project may become the new development point of BAIC in the future, to help it open up the upstream and downstream of the new power car industry chain.

 

It is worth mentioning that, at that time, both car companies and battery manufacturers, and even charging service providers want to advance the layout of power battery ladder use, in order to seize the future market, but so far there is no successful business model that can be bigger and stronger, only constitute a small "force" to occupy the market. With the addition of entrants, the competition will intensify, these different subjects will constitute a competing trend, the future reshuffle is inevitable. Although the power battery take-back "cake" is very big, the prospects are vast, but companies want to really get the mall dividends, I'm afraid it's not that simple.
