The density of robots in my country's manufacturing industry will double! US University claims that China's robot patents have led the world

The country recently announced a series of new development goals to increase the degree of automation in the manufacturing industry while striving to become a global leader in introducing robots into factories.

According to the "Fourteenth Five-Year Plan for Robot Industry Development" jointly issued by multiple government agencies including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China's goal is to increase the operating income of the robotics industry by more than 20% annually, and to double the density of manufacturing robots.

Our country has become one of the most active countries to replace manpower with machines. According to a report released this month by the International Federation of Robotics, China was ranked ninth in terms of robot density (the number of robot units per 10,000 employees) last year, and it was ranked 25th five years ago.

China’s robot density is 246 units per 10,000 employees. Although it still lags behind South Korea’s 932 units (South Korea has been ranked first since 2010), the level is far higher than the global average of 126 and close to the US’s 255.

As part of the latest smart manufacturing plan, the goal is to digitize 70% of domestic manufacturers by 2025. According to another plan for the robotics industry, my country is expected to become a source of technological innovation for global robotics, and achieve breakthroughs in robotic core technologies and high-end robotic products in the same year. The plan also pointed out that by 2035, my country's robot comprehensive capabilities will be among the top in the world, and robots will become an important part of my country's economic development, daily life and social governance by then.

At the same time, the new five-year plan also mentions the increasingly complex global environment and increasingly fierce competition. The imbalance between supply and demand and the stability of the supply chain will become challenges that need to be overcome. The report also stated that China's robotics industry is facing problems such as insufficient technology accumulation, weak industrial foundation, and insufficient high-end supply.

By 2025, China will strive to build at least 500 smart manufacturing model factories, lead the development of smart manufacturing, and cultivate at least 150 smart manufacturing solution providers.

A report released last month by the Center for Security and Emerging Technologies under the Walsh School of Diplomatic Service at Georgetown University showed that China leads the world in robotic patents, accounting for nearly 35% of global output from 2005 to 2019. At the same time, the United States accounts for approximately 13% of the global total.
