Citing foreign media sources, Asylon, a US robotic safety solutions startup, has partnered with Boston Dynamics to develop the DroneDog to enhance customers' perimeter security. DroneDog is based on the integration of Boston Dynamics' Spot unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) with the Asylon DroneCore robotic perimeter security platform.
DroneDog has other features including live video surveillance, remote operation, 20x optical zoom, infrared (thermal) vision for nighttime operation, and automatic charging.
The DroneDog's legged design enables it to walk on rough surfaces including stairs, grass, gravel, rocks, hills, and ice. It can carry a payload of inspection equipment up to 14 kg. The high payload carrying capacity enables users to customize the robot with a variety of sensors and components. The new robot has a top speed of 1.6 meters per second and a runtime of 90 minutes.
DroneDog provides a scalable solution for perimeter security. It allows the integration of multiple units for advanced perimeter security solutions. It is controlled using an intuitive tablet app and a built-in stereo camera. DroneDog utilizes 360-degree perception to map the terrain and avoid obstacles as they arise. Thanks to Asylon DroneIQ software system enhancements, users can program the robot to routinely patrol or respond to alarms triggered by Internet of Things (IoT) connected alarms. Since the robot is field programmable, it supports long-term software development and upgrades.
Asylon Robotics aims to combine aerial and ground safety robotic systems to create its DroneCore robotic perimeter safety platform. The new platform is designed to provide 24/7 real-time mission assurance and remote control, surveillance, and intelligence services. In March 2021, the robotic safety startup received funding from venture capital firm Decisive Point. It aims to use the funding to accelerate the development of autonomous systems software and infrastructure for defense and security customers.
