Wartsila has signed an order with the UK branch of French renewable energy developer EDF Renewables to provide energy storage units for the 57MW/114MWh grid scale energy storage project that the company plans to deploy in the eastern village of Bramford, England.
The order was signed in the first quarter of 2023 and is scheduled to deliver energy storage units in the first quarter of 2024. This will be the sixth energy storage project between Wartsila and EDF, and will also increase EDF's energy storage portfolio in the UK to 1GWh.
The energy storage system will be connected to the transmission network and will help integrate renewable energy generation facilities into the grid, further supporting the UK's goal of building a decarbonized power system by 2035.
The Bramford energy storage project of EDF Renewables UK will provide balance for the power system and assist in electrification of public transportation in the region. The energy storage project will be built near a planned solar power plant, which is also being developed by EDF Renewables UK and is currently awaiting approval from local authorities.
