What is the difference between AGV and AMR?

The full name of AGV is Automated Guided Vehicle, which mainly refers to the automatic transportation vehicle based on navigation technology and does not require manual driving. The full name of AMR is Autonomous Mobile Robot, which means autonomous mobile robot, mainly refers to some autonomous mobile robots.

AGV mainly refers to the industrial logistics to solve the problem of unmanned handling transport vehicles, the early AGV can only be moved by the guidance line on the ground. With the development of navigation technology, the positioning problem has now been solved by high level reflectors and positioning LIDAR, without the need for physical guide lines, and these AGVs are now also known as LGVs. Meanwhile, the improvement of vision technology positioning and navigation problems has also led to the emergence of devices such as VGVs, which can more fully perceive the obstacles and map information in the environment.

And the concept of AMR comes from the field of robotics, which can actively react to the light in the environment and can move autonomously avoiding obstacles. With the development of AI and robotics, the most advanced AMR robots can now autonomously identify their surroundings and can be positioned based on sensors, route themselves according to real-time conditions, and intelligently navigate around obstacles to reach the end point.

Although AGVs and AMRs are different in concept, they have strong crossover in industrial scenarios, and both have more use in logistics and transportation scenarios. In the logistics scene of factories and warehouses, labor is still the mainstream, while AMR and AGV have good effects in different scenarios, which still need technology development and popularization to achieve.
