What is the reason for the explosion of lead-acid batteries and lithium batteries, and who is more powerful in the explosion of both?

Lead-acid battery and lithium battery explosion power who is more violent? Theoretically speaking lithium battery pack due to better sealing, if overcharge gas precipitation occurs, the probability of explosion and fire is higher. But lead-acid battery overcharge will also produce hydrogen gas, hydrogen gas to a certain concentration will also occur in a burst of flame. So we are half and half, who is not better than who. Lithium although there is also the risk of fire and explosion, but the probability is low after all, not to mention that people also account for a lightweight advantage, energy density is also higher.

Lead-acid battery and lithium battery explosion power who is more violent?

Whether lithium or lead-acid batteries, in the design of the internal pressure will be set for the abnormal increase in the safety valve, even if the battery internal short circuit and other abnormalities, the internal pressure will be released in time, will not cause a big risk. The vast majority of the so-called "explosion" from the vehicle circuit or charger capacitance.

Compared with lithium batteries, lead-acid battery safety is still very high, the phenomenon of explosion is very small, but the current market competition is fierce, some bad businessmen in order to reduce the cost of the battery using poor quality plates, it is easy to cause a short circuit, or even cause the battery fire and explosion, in addition, lead-acid battery improper use will also appear the risk of fire and explosion.

From the point of view of battery safety design, qualified lithium batteries and lead-acid batteries are able to fully ensure the safety of users, and there is no significant difference in safety. However, due to the large number of low-end small electric vehicles and scooters on the market, and most of them use poor quality lithium batteries, which are relatively more prone to accidents, which also leaves consumers with the illusion that lithium batteries are not safe.

If the battery structure is damaged due to accidental impact, lead-acid batteries seem to be safer than lithium battery packs. However, in an accident of this level, the battery material has long been exposed to the open environment, and the explosion can not be talked about.

In terms of battery structure, the current lithium battery pack is basically 18650 cells for packaging, while the lead-acid battery is basically a maintenance-free lead-acid battery with good sealing performance, and if the internal pressure is too high and the safety valve is abnormal, the risk factor of both is basically equivalent.

On the contrary, lead-acid batteries seem to be lacking in safety protection except for the safety valve, BMS protection is almost non-existent, and many poor-quality chargers cannot even do full power off, so the safety protection is far from lithium batteries. From the point of view of the safety redundancy design of the battery, qualified lithium batteries and lead-acid batteries are able to fully ensure the safety of users, and there is no obvious difference in safety.

Lead-acid battery explosion causes

One is physical: for example, the internal pressure of the battery is too high causing the battery case to blow up. Another situation is chemical, that is, the hydrogen gas electrolyzed inside the battery is ignited when it touches an open flame. Generally seen because the battery vent is not smooth, the pressure is too high, the battery itself first burst open, burst will cause the battery vibration, so the pole wiring will not wobble and generate sparks, thus igniting the hydrogen gas to form an explosion.

Lithium battery explosion causes

● internal short-circuit: internal short-circuit image, the core of the large electric discharge by electricity, the onset of generous heat, burning the barrier, and brewing a larger short-circuit image, the cloud core will be high temperature, so that the electrolyte disintegration into gas, resulting in excessive internal pressure, when the shell of the cell can not bear this pressure, the lithium battery will explode.

Thermal runaway: lithium-ion batteries will therefore have the tension of the explosion, because the internal reflection of the battery is a process called "thermal runaway". The "thermal runaway" is a positive energy reaction cycle: the increased temperature will cause the preparation to become hot, the preparation becomes hot to raise the temperature, which in turn makes the preparation become even hotter.

The water content is too high: the water may reflect with the electrolyte in the core to produce gas, and when charging, it may reflect with the lithium born to produce lithium oxide, so that the capacity of the core is lost, and the core is easily overcharged and born with gas, and the disintegration voltage of the water is low, and when charging, it is easy to disintegrate and born with gas, and when this series of born gas fusion will make the internal pressure of the core increase, and when the shell of the core cannot bear it, the core will explosion.

The above is the lead-acid battery and lithium battery related content. Whether lithium batteries or lead-acid batteries, the design will be set for the abnormal increase in internal pressure safety valve, even if the battery internal short circuit and other abnormalities, the internal pressure will be released in time, will not cause a big risk. Lithium batteries in the summer high temperature environment and indoor closed environment charging, pay attention to prevent the explosion and combustion, pay attention to prevent the occurrence of danger.
