Recently, Honeybee Robotics, an American company focused on developing robotic systems for the space environment, announced that it will be acquired by Blue Origin.
In addition to the space business, the company is involved in mining, energy, defense and other industrial applications.
For this acquisition, some industry sources said, "Over time, the combination of Honeybee Robotics and Blue Origin will create new opportunities, efficiencies and innovations as they work together to develop space for the benefit of the planet."
It is reported that after the acquisition, Honeybee Robotics will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Blue Origin. The deal, which was completed in February by Honeybee Robotics' parent company Ensign-Bickford Industries and Blue Origin, has not been made public.
However, Blue Origin said it will retain the business Honeybee Robotics originally operated, and there will be no significant changes to the brand, leadership, customer commitments, products, services and processes.
Honeybee Robotics has long been known for developing robotic systems for a variety of space missions, including sample collection systems for Mars, the Moon, and NASA's Dragonfly.

And Honeybee Robotics' extensive experience in planetary robots and mechanics, drills, motors, actuators, drive electronics, and specialized space mechanisms will complement Blue Origin's desire to make spaceflight a routine systems capability target and open space resource. Complement each other with a vision to benefit the planet.
"We are very excited to have Honeybee Robotics join our team as we value the company's brand, talent, unique expertise and products," said Brent Sherwood, senior vice president of advanced development programs at Blue Origin, in a statement. line. Working together, we will enable bold and innovative ideas.”
In 1983, Honeybee Robotics was established in New York City, USA, and began to contact NASA's projects in 1986.
Recently, Honeybee Robotics and innovative solar company mPower Technology were also selected to provide NASA with an innovative lunar charging solution.
Since its inception, Honeybee Robotics has delivered more than 1,000 advanced projects including spacecraft, planetary exploration, defense robotics, medical equipment, mining, oil, gas, and utilities to NASA, the U.S. Department of Defense, and institutions in academia and industry business infrastructure, etc.
Now, the robotic systems the company has developed are operating in space on commercial launch vehicles and satellites, and doing innovative work on planets such as the moon, Mars and Titan.
In 2017, the high-tech enterprise Ensign-Bickford Industries (hereinafter referred to as EBI) acquired Honeybee. Since then, HoneyBee Robotics has become a fully controlled subsidiary of EBI, and its business scope and EBI's aerospace and defense subsidiary Ensign-Bickford Aerospace & Defense (hereinafter referred to as "EBAD") complement each other and complement each other.
Kiel Davis, President of Honeybee Robotics, said, "HoneyBee has a range of new spacecraft motion control and robotics products to market, and EBI has the experience and resources to help us expand and optimize our production operations to better meet Customer demand."
In business, EBAD and HoneyBee Robotics work closely to better meet market needs, and are committed to creating advanced and innovative models to bring new and efficient solutions to the spacecraft and robotics market.

It is understood that EBAD is an important supplier of product lines such as launch vehicles, satellites, spacecraft, missiles and soldier combat systems.
Brendan Walsh, President of EBAD, said, "HoneyBee Robotics has already contributed significantly to the high-growth satellite and space exploration markets, and its capabilities are a great complement to EBI and will serve us well. Provides the opportunity to expand product offerings for many of our core customers, while also expanding our business into emerging growth markets."
In 2019, EBI merged HoneyBee Robotics with aerospace-grade machinery manufacturer Avior Controls, whose Avior product line offers a complete line of high-performance, high-reliability motion control components for aerospace and aerospace environments.
In addition to the Avior series of motion control components, some of the core technologies developed by Honeybee Robotics over the past years are also leading the industry.
The first is the company's power delivery technology, which not only allows power or control signals to be reliably transmitted through routed interfaces, but devices can be delivered as stand-alone components or specially integrated with other components to minimize mass or bulk.
Second, Honeybee Robotics' specially designed P-35 rotary actuator outperforms other similar products on the market, being smaller, lighter and more rigid for a given load capacity.

It is worth mentioning that in the sensing aspect of the system, Honeybee Robotics' high-resolution optical encoders achieve a level of performance that no other company in the market can provide. The assembly was originally designed for microsatellite attitude control applications and uses NASA EEE-INST-002 Level 1 screened components to operate between minus 40 degrees Celsius and 60 degrees Celsius.
Davis said, "This addition to Blue Origin is an important step forward for us. We look forward to further expanding the company's capabilities through Blue Origin to address the next generation of space transportation, space mobility, space destination and Exciting challenges in planetary science and exploration."
