On November 25, LOCAL time, BYD announced that it has signed a purchase agreement with Barcelona Metropolitan Transport (TMB) for electric buses. The agreement will provide 25 new-generation BYD 12-meter electric buses to the city of Barcelona to help operators switch to electric buses by 2025. It will also be the first time byd's all-electric bus will enter the city of Barcelona.
Barcelona is Spain's second largest city and one of the most densely populated in the world. As one of the largest public transport operators in Spain, TMB has begun to lay out its new energy strategy in recent years. It plans to introduce a large number of new energy vehicles in 2022, and the number of new cars will hit a new high in the past 15 years. The strategy aims to phase out fuel vehicles, accelerate fleet renewal and achieve zero emissions in Barcelona's public transport sector. This is TMB's first purchase of all-electric buses from BYD. The vehicles will be manufactured locally in Europe and are scheduled to be delivered in 2022 to serve multiple routes in the Barcelona metropolitan area.
This batch of 12-meter pure electric buses is the star model that won the iF Design Award in Germany, integrating new configurations and innovative functions, the vehicle performance and ride comfort have been greatly improved. In addition to byd's leading "6 in 1" highly integrated controller, byd's self-developed fleet management system is also used in this model to help operators effectively manage and diagnose vehicles remotely. It is worth mentioning that the first order of this new model has been delivered to DEUTSCHE Bahn for commercial operation. Five buses are now serving the routes around Karlsruhe district in Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany.
In terms of battery life, the vehicle uses an upgraded version of lithium iron phosphate battery pack, which can run more than 400km after a single charge in SORT condition. In addition, the fleet is equipped with the top charging function, which is convenient for the vehicles to recharge quickly during operation and improve the efficiency of the fleet operation. This feature is especially important for the operational needs of lines such as Barcelona city.
