European electric car market in February: market share increased to 20%, Model 3/Y topped the best-selling list

According to data from EV Volumes, a global electric vehicle sales database, in February, nearly 160,000 electric vehicles were registered in Europe, a year-on-year increase of 38%, and the market share increased to 20%. Among them, the sales of pure electric vehicles were about 88,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 79%, and the market share reached 11%; the sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles was about 72,000 units, an increase of 6% year-on-year, with a market share of 9%.


From January to February this year, about 314,193 electric vehicles were registered in Europe, with a market share of 19%. Among them, the sales of pure electric vehicles are about 180,000 units, with a market share of 11%; the sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles are about 130,000 units, with a market share of 8%. EV Volume said the market share of electric vehicles in Europe is expected to continue to grow in the future, driven by factors such as rising fuel prices.

In February, the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y far outsold other electric vehicles in Europe, taking the top spot on the European EV bestseller list. Sales of the Tesla Model 3 were 9,098, with deliveries of the car concentrated in several key European markets such as Germany (3,690), France (2,717) and the UK (1,275). While the Tesla Model Y sold 6,879 units, several European markets with higher sales of this car are as follows: Germany (2,254 units), the United Kingdom (1,306 units), France (866 units) and Sweden (583 units).


The third-placed Fiat 500e is off to a strong start to the year, with 4,038 deliveries in Europe in February, but will face a Volkswagen up in the near future! , Mercedes-Benz Smart Fortwo, Renault Twingo and Dacia Spring and other micro electric cars fierce competition.


The Volkswagen Group has been emphasizing on catching up with Tesla, and its top-selling electric car in Europe is the Audi Q4 e-tron, which ranks 9th. Model Y, ranked 12th and 18th, respectively.


In the first two months of the year, the Tesla Model 3 topped the bestseller list with just under 10,000 sales, ahead of the strong-selling Kia Niro and Fiat 500e. While the Model Y ranks fifth, it also has a chance to fight for the top spot this year. With the official start of production at Tesla's German factory, the sales and market share of Tesla's two models in the European electric vehicle market will further increase in the next few months.

In the first two months of this year, the top five car brands in Europe by market share for electric vehicles were BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Peugeot, Volvo Cars and Kia. Among them, BMW and Mercedes-Benz share the same market share of 9.6%, tied for first place, Peugeot and Volvo Cars tied for second place, and Kia ranked third with a slight gap. Although Tesla has two best-selling electric models, its market share is only 5.4%, ranking ninth.


The top five automotive groups in the European electric vehicle market share are: Volkswagen Group, Stellantis, Hyundai Motor Group, BMW Group and Mercedes Group. Volkswagen Group leads with a market share of 18.7%; Stellantis ranks second with a market share of 15.9%; Hyundai Motor Group follows closely with its Kia and Hyundai brands with 6.3% and 6% market share respectively; BMW Group and May The Sedes-Benz Group was 11.9% and 10.8% respectively. Tesla's 5.4% market share is difficult to compete with these major groups.
