Shares of spatial data company Matterport (NASDAQ: MTTR) surged last week on speculation it could be a beneficiary of metaverse's growth.
Metacosmic development will intensify
Investors have speculated that Matterport could become a partner in Facebook's (NASDAQ: FB) effort to build a meta-universe, which Facebook will call Meta. The two companies are working together to develop Facebook's AI simulation platform that "embodies AI". The study aims to work with academic researchers to find use cases for spatial data and artificial intelligence.
It's hard to say how Facebook's move to Meta will affect Matterport's long-term business. But it's good to have prospects for the metasverse, and Matterport's positive business trajectory will continue.
One announcement that may also draw attention is Matterport's Capture application, now available for Android users, which includes capturing space on smartphones. The previous version of the was application camera-compatible but did not include full capture capabilities on the device.
Spatial data can be used for future development
I'm definitely optimistic about Matterport going forward, but this seems like a bit of a stretch, given that the metasexes are only in their early stages, but it's worth noting how Matterport space data can be used in AR/VR/ metasexes application development.
The most important news for Matterport will be third-quarter earnings on November 3. This will give investors an idea of how quickly this growth stock is gaining traction with users.
