France awarded 339 MW of new capacity in its latest tender for a PPE2 ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) project, which called for 700 MW, but was ultimately undersubscribed and the average proposed price rose.
The tender is the second round under France's new PPE2 scheme, which aims to allocate nearly 29GW of renewable generation capacity by 2026. The French Ministry for Ecological Transition announced last week the 38 successful bidders for the second round.
The average price of the tenders was €68.51 per MWh, higher than the €58.84/MWh recorded in the initial tender, with 71 projects winning bids.
The biggest winner in terms of capacity was a unit by Q Energy France, which was awarded a 66 MW project on the banks of the Langchamp. France's Photosol, Neoen, Technical Solaire and Engie were also successful. Consultancy Finegreen estimates Greater Est is the area with the most capacity awarded, with 36% of projects to be installed in the area.
From the third round of the PPE2 tender, the capacity offered will be 925 MW, through which the final target for ground-mounted solar PV installations is set at 9.95 GW. The bid deadline for the third tender is November 30.
