From cheering to remote diagnosis, Shenzhen robots empower the Winter Olympics

The Beijing Winter Olympics is not only a competitive event for the world's best athletes but also a stage to showcase the achievements of technological innovation. From smart venue construction, service protection to event communication, artificial intelligence, robotics, 5G, cloud, 8K, and other technology applications are everywhere, epidemic prevention robots, guidance robots, delivery robots, logistics robots, stir-fry robots, food delivery robots and other types of service robots have been on duty to provide contactless intelligent services to help the Winter Olympic Games held smoothly. Among them, there are many robots from Shenzhen.

Under the trend of "human-machine integration", in the future, robots will also become an important participant in ice and snow sports, not only to create a comfortable and safe ice and snow experience environment for human beings, the formation of year-round regular ice and snow activities, help ice and snow sports from competitive sports to mass sports, but also for the innovative development of the world ice and snow sports, the level of competition and the expansion of the model to provide unlimited possibilities.

Technology to welcome the Winter Olympics, robots can cheer and help

On the evening of February 4, the much-anticipated opening ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games was held at the Bird's Nest. Shenzhen, as the only southern seaside city, held a celebration and interacted with the opening ceremony's hot show through a link to the ice and snow date. The "Shenzhen gift" Ubiquity Wukong robot and other Shenzhen technology elements were presented to bless the Winter Olympics and deliver AI to the world in an innovative way of "Winter Olympics + fashion + technology".

Working robots wearing the traditional costumes of 56 nationalities

Wearing the traditional costumes of 56 nationalities, 56 Wukong robots brought a wonderful collective dance performance with their super sense of life and expressiveness, and they also waved the Winter Olympics flag to cheer for the Olympic athletes. On the stage decorated with flowers, waves and ice flowers, nine Wukong robots disguised as skiers and skaters, vividly restore the heroic posture of athletes in ice and snow sports.

This reporter learned from Ubiquity that, thanks to 14 independently developed high-performance servo drives, the Wukong robots were able to perfectly present aerial skills on snowboard and snowboard, taking into account the movements while also simulating the athletes' expressions and maintaining stability during the competition.

65 Wukong robots performed on the same stage

A total of 65 Wukong robots performed on the same stage on-site, requiring a cluster control system with signals emitted by a signal transmitter to unify the robots' communication module receiving signals with the timeline and servo drive running program, resulting in a neat and tidy performance.

In addition to Wukong, there are other robots with black technology in the arena, some played curling, staged ice "human-machine confrontation", some in the mountains and snow and ice environment to carry out patrols, implementation of rescue, to help people avoid the risk ...... From the construction of intelligent venues to service protection, the figure of robots is everywhere.

Shenzhen University robots to help the Winter Olympics national speed skating pavilion to create the "fastest ice"

Shenzhen University's research team also provided unique scientific and technological support for the success of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

Beijing Winter Olympic landmark National Speed Skating Stadium "Ice Ribbon" adopts an all-ice design, with an ice surface area of about 12,000 square meters. In order to create the "fastest ice" and ensure the uniform temperature of the ice surface after ice-making, so that athletes can compete at the level of the National Speed Skating Stadium, the National Speed Skating Stadium has put forward high standards for the construction of the concrete base level of the ice surface, that is, the height difference of no more than 3mm in any 5m area.

For this reason, Beijing National Speed Skating Stadium Operation Co., Ltd. together with Shenzhen University's dynamic precision engineering measurement team, proposed to use inertial measurement methods to make precision measurements of local height undulations on the ground, and at the same time to locate the test results through auxiliary inertial positioning technology, so as to achieve rapid flatness assessment of the concrete substrate of the oversized ice surface.

In order to realize the concrete base levelness inspection in the initial setting state during the construction period, a flat plate inertial levelness measurement robot was invented to assist in the precise grinding and leveling operation of the concrete ice base during the construction period. After the completion of the ice base, further acceptance is required. The team invented a wheeled inertial leveling measurement robot to achieve precise measurement of the relative elevation of the ground and a comprehensive assessment of the leveling.

Compared with the traditional ground leveling measurement method, the leveling measurement robot developed by the SZU team has the advantages of high precision, dense measurement points, fast efficiency, locatable and good flexibility. The relative elevation measurement accuracy of the robot is better than 0.5mm/5m, and the comprehensive measurement efficiency is improved 5-10 times compared with the traditional level method, which can fully meet the demand of levelness measurement and evaluation of large indoor concrete substrate.

According to the introduction, the team of SZU showed excellent innovative scientific thinking and efficient and accurate practical ability during the project implementation, which was recognized by the relevant parties of the National Speed Skating Stadium construction. The project "Key technology and application of dynamic and high-precision construction measurement of National Speed Skating Stadium" won the first prize of the 2021 Mapping Science and Technology Award.

Remote ultrasound robots and automated nucleic acid testing equipment help scientific epidemic prevention

The remote ultrasound robots made by UWIC also appeared at the site of the Winter Olympics. It is reported that the Third Hospital of Peking University ("Beihang Hospital") undertakes the medical security task of the Winter Olympic Games, and the Olympic consultation room of the hospital has already started operation. Patients in the closed-loop management area can complete ultrasound diagnosis through the UWIC Remote Ultrasound Robot Diagnostic System, while the doctors of PKUH can realize "doctor-patient contactless" diagnosis through this equipment.

The remote ultrasound robotic diagnosis system is divided into a doctor's side and a patient side. During the Olympic Games, the patient side is deployed in the closed-loop clinic, and ultrasound doctors can complete remote scanning and real-time consultation and communication outside the closed-loop area through the doctor-side mimic probe. In order to help the Winter Olympic Games to be held successfully, the UWI Cloud Shadow remote ultrasound robot connects the medical guarantee channel between Beihang Hospital and the closed-loop area through 5G and high-speed broadband, so that the hospital can provide the same quality of medical services even during the closed-loop management.
