Germany's Uniper and Netherlands' Vesta join forces to build Northwest Europe's first green ammonia center

German energy company Uniper and the Dutch Vesta terminal have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on building the first green ammonia hub in Northwest Europe.

Under the memorandum of understanding, the two companies will evaluate the feasibility of refurbishing and expanding the existing storage facility in Vlissingen, the Netherlands, with the aim of creating a green ammonia hub "Green Point Valley".

The Vesta terminal in Vlissingen currently has an ammonia cold storage capacity of 60,000 cubic meters and, as a future hub, will have an initial throughput of 960,000 tons/year.

In a joint statement, the companies said the terminal is well-positioned to supply green ammonia via sea-going vessels reloaded to barges and rail tankers.

In the second phase, the facility's throughput can be expanded to 1.92 million tons/year, and the terminal will be connected to the Netherlands' hydrogen network. Commissioning and commissioning are planned for early 2026. Commissioning and starting operations are planned for early 2026.
