1. Lack of profit model

The "tide" of mandatory storage for new energy projects has basically swept the country, but the active response of wind power developers is "few and far between". "Now the approved onshore wind power grid-connected projects, if there is no pre-requirement, developers are basically not actively equipped with energy storage facilities." A wind power industry insiders who do not want to be named said in an interview with reporters.


As of October 14, the reporter checked the wind power market project public notice issued by Gansu, Guangxi and other provinces and regions, which shows that the projects equipped with energy storage still account for only a few, storage is also equipped with the scale of most only in the project capacity of 5%-10%.


"Why not with storage? Not with certainly because of the increased cost. This year, the onshore wind power industry has been fully parity, developers have mostly lowered profit expectations accordingly." The wind power industry insiders told reporters.

2. Wind power with storage more difficult

In fact, in the industry experts, wind power as a volatile renewable energy, its equipped with storage and photovoltaic energy storage is also different. According to Chen Yong Chong, unlike photovoltaic power generation due to day and night differences and short term fluctuations in the existence of more obvious peak and valley characteristics, wind power consumption matching poor, there may be several days of windy or windless weather conditions. The key to the application of wind storage combination should be to suppress the system impact caused by volatility and intermittency through a reasonable capacity configuration and appropriate operating strategy.


It is understood that in order to ensure relatively stable power output, the domestic mainstream machine manufacturers also use the wind turbine pitch system, using high power batteries or super capacitors as a power-type energy storage system to ensure that the wind turbine in the case of wind speed fluctuations to maintain a relatively stable power output, as well as in the wind is too large to allow the fan blade to return to neutral, to achieve safe shutdown. However, the power-based energy storage system has certain frequency regulation function, but does not have peak regulation capability.


In this case, Chen Yongchong pointed out that, compared to photovoltaic storage, the ideal wind power storage peaking requirements for storage length longer, continuous storage length or need to reach 4-10 hours, this requirement for energy storage system power cost requirements will be more demanding.


3. Expect policy breakthrough


In the face of storage requirements and relatively high storage costs, in the industry, the establishment of a sound energy storage price mechanism and an effective "new energy + storage" project incentive mechanism will become the key to the future breakthrough. As early as July this year, the National Energy Board has issued a "guidance on accelerating the development of new energy storage", the document proposed to 2025, to achieve new energy storage from the early stages of commercialization to large-scale development, including "the establishment of grid-side independent energy storage power plant capacity tariff mechanism, research to explore the grid alternative energy storage facilities cost revenue into the transmission and distribution price recovery "The expression once cheered the market.


A number of industry experts pointed out that the current wind power with storage is still mainly mandatory by local governments and power grid companies. To build a new power system with new energy as the main body, but also need the corresponding policy support, but also need to change the concept of the stakeholders, and jointly explore a viable business model.

Chen Yong Chong also said that as renewable energy sources equipped with electrochemical energy storage technology gradually mature, safety, cost and sustainable development of resources continue to progress, the next 5-10 years the cost of electricity for battery storage systems will be expected to drop to 0.2-0.3 yuan / kWh level.
