Italian company ENI and Algeria Sonatrach began to build a 10 MW solar project in Algeria

ENI and Algerian natural gas and oil suppliers Sonatrach said they will build a new 10 MW solar project in the Birrebaa North (Brn) oil production complex in the Berkine Basin, southeast Algeria. Together with the existing 10 MW facilities enabled in the BRN complex in 2018, the newly added device will double the renewable energy capacity that can be used to provide power to the upstream process of the oil field.

ENI said that it will build another photovoltaic facility in the production complex of the Menzel-LEDJMET EAST project (MLE), which is also located in the Berkine Basin, and is expected to start in 2023.

The Italian-Algerian Enterprise Alliance also held a ceremony for its solar laboratory. This new facility will collect and analyze the data to test the efficiency of different photovoltaic technologies under the high radiation conditions of southern Algeria.
