Consumers can scan the QR code to pick up the goods at Ochama
Phoenix.com News on January 11, Beijing time, JD.com has opened two retail stores in the Netherlands, where robots complete stocking and delivery. The two stores, dubbed "Ochama," mark JD.com's first foray into European brick-and-mortar retail and demonstrate JD.com's ambitions to expand beyond China. Shoppers can use the Ochama app to order everything from food to cosmetics to furniture, and then go to a store, scan a QR code on the Ochama app, and pick up the item from a conveyor, JD.com said.
JD.com's entry into the European market marks the beginning of its challenge to Amazon. Amazon opened brick-and-mortar retail stores called Amazon Fresh. JD.com said it plans to open two more retail stores in Amsterdam and Utrecht.
In recent years, although most of its revenue has come from the Chinese market, JD.com has been exploring overseas markets. Its shopping website, called Joybuy.com, is aimed at international users. It is also the largest shareholder of shopping platform Tiki in the establishment of e-commerce joint ventures. (Author/Frost Leaf)
