After Misty Robotics raised $11.5 million from Foundry and Venrock and then crowdfunded its personal robot, the company faced a series of challenges. Today, Swedish social robotics company Furhat Robotics has acquired robotics company Misty Robotics, giving the struggling startup a gentle landing spot.
The Swedish company said it was an all-cash deal. While Furhat has been tight-lipped about the financial details of the deal, it told TechCrunch that the purpose of the acquisition is to give Furhat an edge in hardware that will allow it to leverage its social bot software on the new platform.
It is reported that Furhat Robotics will continue to support the Misty Robotics brand, and will also assist in the development and expansion of the product range and the integration of Furhat and Misty functions to enhance future social robots.
