On Nov. 15, the National Bureau of Statistics released the energy production in October 2021. Among them, natural gas production growth fell. In October, 16.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas were produced, up 0.5% year on year, 6.6 percentage points lower than the previous month and 12.4% higher than the same period in 2019, with a two-year average growth of 6.0%. The average daily output was 530 million cubic meters. From January to October, 168.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas was produced, up 9.4 percent year on year and 19.2 percent over the same period in 2019, with a two-year average growth of 9.2 percent.

But gas imports are growing fast. In October, imports of natural gas reached 9.38 million tons, up 24.5 percent year on year and 0.9 percentage points faster than last month. From January to October, it imported 99.07 million tons of natural gas, up 22.3% year on year.
In addition, electricity production kept growing. In October, power generation reached 639.3 billion kilowatt-hours, up 3.0 percent year on year, 1.9 percentage points lower than the previous month, and 7.7 percent higher than the same period in 2019, with a two-year average growth of 3.8 percent. The average daily power generation reached 20.6 billion kilowatt-hours. From January to October, power generation reached 6,717.6 billion kilowatt hours, up 10.0 percent year on year and 11.5 percent over the same period in 2019, with a two-year average growth of 5.6 percent.

By category, the growth rate of wind power and nuclear power accelerated in October, while the growth rate of thermal power and solar power slowed down, and the decline rate of hydropower expanded. Among them, wind power increased 23.5% year on year, 3.8 percentage points faster than last month, the two-year average growth of 19.1%; Nuclear power increased by 16.9 percent, 12.6 percentage points faster than last month and an average growth of 8.0 percent over the past two years. Hydropower fell by 11.9%, 11.6 percentage points more than the previous month, with a two-year average growth of 5.1%. Thermal power grew by 5.2%, 0.5 percentage points slower than the previous month, with a two-year average growth of 1.8%. Solar power rose 0.4 percent, down 4.1 percentage points from the previous month and a two-year average of 4.2 percent.
