Nidec ASI is the Italian industrial solutions division of the Japanese conglomerate Nidec Group. The company said a few days ago that it will provide EPC services for a 50MW battery energy storage system project deployed in Northern Ireland.
The energy storage project, developed by investment company SUSI Partners, will provide grid services to grid operator EIRGrid/SONI.
This is the second large-scale energy storage project for Nidec ASI to provide EPC services in the UK this year. In March this year, investor Gore Street Capital selected Nidec ASI as the turnkey system and EPC contractor for two battery energy storage projects in the UK with a total installed capacity of 129.8MW, which are expected to achieve commercial operation in February 2023.
Gore Street Capital, one of the largest investors in energy storage funds for the UK battery energy storage sector, saw net income increase by 191% and earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) by 704% in the year to March 31, 2022 %. Average revenue from its storage assets in the UK increased by 68%. The company has recently gone international through acquisitions in the US and Germany.
Nidec ASI describes itself as one of the market leaders in battery energy storage solutions, having installed more than 1.6GWh of battery energy storage systems in nine markets already in Europe and the Maldives. However, research firm IHS Markit ranked Nidec ASI in ninth place in its "Top Energy Storage System Integrators 2021" list based on its installations and planned projects.
In addition, the company provides services for battery energy storage solutions at plants in Milan and Vincenza, Italy.
