Industry insiders forecast that the scrap volume will reach 14.03GWh this year, and the market size of power lithium ion battery recycling will approach 5 billion yuan based on the recovery value of lithium ion batteries of 0.3 yuan /Wh. By 2020, the scrap volume of power lithium-ion batteries is expected to exceed 248,000 tons, and the market size will break through 10 billion tons, about 20 times the scrap volume in 2016.

In January 2016, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the Ministry of Commerce and the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine jointly announced the Technical Policy on The Recycling and Utilization of Electric Vehicle Power Batteries, requiring the adoption of extended producer responsibility system. It is clear that the production company is the main body of recycling responsibility and requires the establishment of traceability information management system for lithium-ion batteries of new energy vehicles.
The interim measures also require battery companies to work with car companies to code their power batteries in accordance with national standards. At the same time, car companies should also entrust new energy vehicle vendors to record new energy vehicles and their owners' traceability information through the traceability information system.
