Recently, SolarEdge and its lithium-ion battery and integrated energy storage solutions supply subsidiary Kokam Limited Compan announced the opening of "Sella 2".
Sella 2 is a 2GWh battery manufacturing plant. The Sella 2 factory in Eumseong Innovation City, Chungcheongbuk-do, South Korea, is currently producing test cells for certification, and the factory is expected to achieve mass production in the second half of 2022.
When mass production is achieved, Sella 2 will allow SolarEdge to have its own supply of lithium-ion batteries and an infrastructure development facility for new batteries and technologies. The facility is planned to produce SolarEdge's residential solar grid-connected batteries as well as a variety of industrial batteries, including mobile applications, stationary energy storage solutions and UPS applications.
The factory can expand battery capacity in the future to meet growing demand for SloarEdge energy storage solutions.
"The launch of Sella 2 is an important milestone for SolarEdge," SolarEdge said. "It allows us to gain access to key processes for our solar core business, other application development and advanced energy storage solutions, while further ensuring supply chain resiliency. We are committed to In developing our business in the energy storage market, we will invest in battery technology and battery manufacturing to further strengthen our energy storage portfolio."
