Tesla recalls more than 50,000 vehicles in the U.S. due to defective Autopilot system

Battery Network learned that on February 1, Eastern Time, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued a recall report, announcing that Tesla will recall a total of nearly 54,000 vehicles in the United States.

According to the NHTSA recall notice, Tesla will recall a total of 53,822 Model S and Model X vehicles from 2016-2022, Model 3 from 2017-2022, and Model Y vehicles from 2020-2022. The reason for the recall involves Model 3, Model S, Model X, and Model Y models with Full Self-Driving (FSD) Beta version 2020.40.4.10 or later systems installed.

The announcement shows that cars equipped with Tesla's FSD beta software may make "rolling stops," which will drive the vehicle at speeds of up to 5.6 mph as long as the driver puts the vehicle in "full self-driving" mode. Speed, through intersections requiring stops in all four directions, pose a safety risk. Tesla will remove the "rolling parking" feature of the aforementioned FSD software via OTA.

Battery Network noticed that in the fourth quarter earnings conference call, Tesla disclosed that nearly 60,000 vehicle owners are currently testing FSD software, far exceeding the 2,000 vehicles in the third quarter. FSD software has accelerated Tesla's profitability. speed. The recall is a setback for Tesla's self-driving software, a potential source of profit.
