The milestone of Brazil's photovoltaic installed capacity reaching 30GW

Since January 2022, Brazil has added 15 GW of photovoltaic production capacity. In 2023 alone, the country deployed 4.4 GW of new solar power generation capacity, with 3.15 GW coming from distributed generation systems and 1.24 GW from utility scale photovoltaic power stations.

According to the latest data from Brazil's energy regulatory agency Aneel, Brazil's installed solar capacity has reached 30 GW.

Approximately 15 GW of capacity has been deployed in the past 17 months.

In the first five months of 2023, Brazilian developers deployed approximately 4.39 GW of new photovoltaic power generation capacity, of which 3.1 GW came from the distributed generation system operating under the country's net metering plan, which covers all photovoltaic systems of 5 megawatts and below.

Of the total installed capacity, 21 GW comes from the distributed power generation system, and the remaining 9 GW comes from large Solar power station.

Approximately 10 GW of distributed generation capacity comes from residential photovoltaic systems with a capacity of less than 7 kW.

In terms of centralized power generation, there are still over 102 GW of winning projects under construction or development. Larger scale projects are expected to support the continued growth of the free market and provide electricity for energy intensive green hydrogen production.

Most distributed solar power generation systems in Brazil are installed at consumer sites, providing electricity to the installed units.
