In recent years, driven by energy technology changes and emerging technology companies such as Tesla, the global new energy vehicle industry has achieved explosive growth. China's new energy vehicle industry is supported by policies and has become the largest electric vehicle market in the world since 2015.
In 2017, the production of new energy vehicles reached 794,000 units, an increase of 53.8% year-on-year, with a year-on-year growth rate of 2.1 percentage points. 2.7% of the new energy vehicle market in 2017, an increase of 0.9 percentage points over the previous year. Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) further indicated that it will develop a fuel vehicle sales suspension schedule, providing a strong policy guarantee for the future development of the new energy vehicle industry. It is expected that new energy vehicle sales will remain at a high growth rate of about 40% in the next four years, and demand from related upstream industries will continue to be driven.
Driven by the production and sales of new energy vehicles, China's lithium-ion power battery capacity has entered a "great leap forward" since the second half of 2015, with a large amount of social capital pouring in one after another. According to incomplete statistics, in 2016, China's relevant enterprises built lithium-ion power battery production capacity of 100-130GWh/a, by 2017 China's power battery production capacity of nearly 200GWh / year, the rapid growth of power battery production capacity, will significantly boost the scale of the upstream lithium materials industry, the major key materials demand will be significantly increased.
Steady growth of industry scale, China's advantage is expected to expand
In 2017, the growth rate of the main application markets of lithium-ion batteries slowed down, and the annual global lithium-ion battery industry scale exceeded RMB 300 billion, with a growth rate of 4 percentage points lower than that of 2016. Under the continued promotion policy of new energy vehicles, China's electric vehicle production reached 650,000 units in 2017, which will further increase its share in the global electric vehicle market.
Power battery leads growth, market share to exceed 60%
In 2017, as domestic cell phone brands have basically dominated the domestic market, the international market has become more difficult to develop, the growth rate is expected to drop to about 10%, notebook computers, tablet PCs production decline will continue to narrow, but still maintain a downward trend, wearable devices, drones and other consumer products are expected to show rapid growth momentum, but the overall scale is small, in general, in 2017 consumer Lithium-ion battery market demand will maintain a low growth rate of about 3%. At present, China's lithium-ion material enterprises are constantly pouring into the international front line, and some material enterprises have become one of the global leaders. In the long run, new energy vehicles will become an important industry in China in the next few years, and China's material enterprises are expected to accelerate their development and usher in global competitive opportunities by virtue of the huge domestic market space.
