Recently, Toyota announced that it will enter the home energy storage battery business. Lithium batteries placed outdoors can receive and store electrical energy from on-board batteries. Household energy storage batteries can be used as an emergency power supply during power outages, and the demand for disaster countermeasures is strong, and the market scale is constantly expanding. Toyota's energy storage battery will focus on the convenience of being powered by a variety of power sources, including hybrid vehicles, to tap demand.
It is understood that using on-board battery technology, Toyota's home energy storage battery system can be used in an environment of 45°C to -20°C, and the storage capacity and setting work can also be confirmed through a dedicated APP. As a "home power supply system" consisting of battery units (with a capacity of 8.7KWh) and vehicle power supply adapters, it is expected to be sold through real estate companies in August.
The market for energy storage batteries continues to expand as they can power homes and businesses in the event of a disaster. According to the statistics of the Japan Electrical Machinery Industry Association, the sales volume of fixed lithium battery systems in 2020 will be 126,000 units, an increase of three times that of 2015. Among them, the models below 10 kWh mainly used in households are the most.
