In 2021, the global sales of new energy vehicles will be about 6.37 million, a year-on-year increase of 100%;
Among them, the TOP 15 power battery companies have a total installed capacity of 281.58GWh, accounting for 96% of the overall installed capacity. They are CATL, LGES, Panasonic, BYD, SK ON, Samsung SDI, China Innovation Airlines, Gotion Hi-Tech, Envision Power, Farasis Energy, Manly Battery, SVOLT Energy, EVE, Sunwoda, and chinarept.
The acceleration of the global electrification process has driven the further development of the global new energy industry chain. The industry generally predicts that the global production and sales of new energy vehicles will exceed 8.5 million in 2022, driving the demand for power batteries to exceed 650GWh
The changes in the global new energy vehicle market have also had a certain impact on the global power battery installed capacity, and the evolution of the market pattern has also shown new variables. Mainly reflected in the following aspects:
First, the competition among enterprises has intensified, and the differentiation of the global market has further intensified.
Compared with 2021, the TOP 5 camp in 2022 will remain unchanged except for the exchange of the rankings of SK ON and Samsung SDI, but the market share gap between enterprises will gradually widen. For example, the market share of Panasonic, which ranks third, is about twice that of BYD, which ranks fourth.
The ranking of TOP6-10 companies has changed. Except for China Innovation Airlines, which continued to maintain the seventh place, the rest of the companies have changed their faces. Gotion Hi-Tech has further ranked 8th from 9th in 2020, and Funeng Technology will be outside the TOP 10 in 2020.
The installed capacity and market share of the top 10-15 companies are “tight”. Three battery companies, including SVOLT Energy, Yiwei Lithium Energy, and Sunwoda, have almost the same market share. SVOLT Energy leads by about 200MWh, and the gap between EVE and Sunwoda is further narrowed. to 40MWh.
The second is that Chinese battery companies have "one superpower and many strong" to grab the cake of the global market.
In the TOP 15 list of global installed capacity, Chinese battery companies occupy 11 seats, accounting for more than half of the global market share, reaching 51%, accelerating the encroachment of the market share of power battery companies in Japan and South Korea.
Among them, CATL is the only one, with a global share of 32.1%, which is nearly 12 percentage points behind the market share of the second-ranked LGES. At the same time, BYD, China Innovation Airlines, Farasis Energy, Honeycomb Energy, Manly Battery and others have increased their market shares in China and expanded their global shares.
Third, the international growth value of second-tier power batteries has jumped.
According to the incomplete statistics of Gaogong Lithium Battery, in 2021, Chinese power battery companies will win more than 20 overseas orders, of which Europe has become a hot spot for Chinese lithium battery companies to invest, and North America, Southeast Asia and other regions are also heating up.
For example, Envision Power joins hands with Renault and Nissan, UK and France; EVE wins Jaguar Land Rover’s 48V designation and a large US energy storage order; Guoxuan Hi-Tech provides technical support for Volkswagen and establishes its first new energy production and operation base in Europe. It will produce increasingly strong international competitiveness and product power.
Holding a huge order or project designation, and reaching long-term cooperation with overseas customers, Chinese power battery companies have accelerated their efforts to go overseas. Chinese battery companies including Envision Power, Farasis Energy, Farasis Energy, BYD, AVIC Lithium, Gotion Hi-Tech, and Manly Battery have clearly or have already started to build factories in Europe.
CATL
CATL has a solid leading position in the global installed capacity, with an installed capacity of 93.68GWh occupying 32.1% of the global market share, ahead of second place LG Chem with a market share of nearly 12%.
