Synergy is a energy manufacturer and retailer at all the Western Australian Government. It is planned to work with the 100 MW/200 MWH battery constructed at the original site of the Kwinana Power Station, which is currently retired in southern Perth, and then deployed a battery energy storage of 200 MW/800 MWH system.
Synergy has submitted a development application to the joint development evaluation team and will start operating a 100 mW/200 mWH battery in April to build a power grid -class battery invested by $ 450 million. The battery was originally expected to be put into use in September 2022, but was forced to delay due to the influence of global supply chain problems.
After completion, the Kwinana large battery will be connected to the state's main grid -Southwest Interconnect System (SWIS), which is equivalent to two hours of power supply for 160,000 households. Synergy will operate and manage the battery energy storage system. The company said that as the state -owned coal power stations in Western Australia were retired by 2030, this will become the main part of its future asset portfolio.
