The New Mexico Senate has recently passed a bill asking all public institutions of the state investor to deploy or purchase a 2GW/7GWH energy storage system by 2034, which is the second time that of the US states recently adopted.
Specifically, New Mexico will achieve 1GW/3.5GWH energy storage deployment target before December 31, 2028, and will deploy the same amount of energy storage system before December 31, 2033, which means that by 2034, the state will be the state by 2034. The deployment energy storage system will reach 2GW/7GWh.
Compared with the first edition of the bill, this number has changed slightly. The first edition requires the energy storage capacity deployed in 2029 and 2034 is 4GWh and 8GWh, respectively. This means that the average duration of the energy storage system has been reduced from 4 hours to 3.5 hours.
So far, large battery energy storage project deployed in New Mexico is often a energy storage system with a duration of 4 hours. New Mexico Public Service Company (PNM) plans to purchase a 150MW/600MWH energy storage project of Renewal Energy Investors DESRI. The project should be launched last year, but no announcement has been released so far. One year ago, Honeywell announced that it would deploy a 20MW/80MWH lithium -ion battery energy storage system for a solar power plant at New Mexico Public Service (PNM).
Prior to this operation, Michigan House of Representatives also released the target of energy storage deployment, that is, the 2.5GW energy storage system was deployed in 2030.
