Sydney-based manufacturer Canyon Solar has launched a modular solar carport solution for commercial applications. It is said to be at least three times faster to install than conventional systems and outperform rooftop solar PV installations in cost per watt.
The Canyon modular shade structure is built around individual sheds, each 7.5 meters long and 2.6 meters wide, two sheds combined into a unit that can cover the width of three parking spaces. The units can be deployed in tandem to provide shade for hundreds of cars, the manufacturer said.
Each individual shed has six 660 W Canadian Solar double panels with Sungrow's multi-wire inverters, but is structurally designed to easily incorporate components from other manufacturers. The waterproofing system can be connected to the grid, to energy storage devices, and to integrate seamlessly with EV charging hardware.
The shed and steel support structure are pre-assembled in the factory and shipped to the site, where the shed is hoisted into place on prefabricated posts and rafters. System commissioning after final electrical connections have been made.
Canyon Solar has yet to secure its first commercial project, and the company is in talks with "a number of malls and universities", with the first installation expected to be completed by the end of the year.
