The photovoltaic power plant is the sixth phase planned for the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.
The Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park project in Dubai has been tendered in several stages and has seen multiple bids from developers hitting record lows.
The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has launched a tender to build a 900 MW solar facility about 50 kilometers south of Dubai city.
The solar power plant is the sixth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. The mega project will have 5 GW of solar and concentrated solar (CSP) generation capacity when completed in 2030.
The winning developer will build and operate the power plant as an Independent Power Project (IPP), Dubai Electricity and Water Authority said. The deadline for bidders to submit bids is October 10.
DEWA said the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park currently has a total installed capacity of 1,627 MW, including 13 MW in the first phase, 200 MW in the second and 800 MW in the third, and the fourth, which is still under development Phase 5 and Phase 5 projects.
The latter two phases of the project under development will add 1,233 MW of power, including 700 MW of delayed CSP capacity, DEWA said. This will allow Dubai to add 2,140 MW of installed capacity by 2030, of which 900 MW will come from the sixth phase of the project.
