Dutch company Iv-Offshore & Energy has launched an offshore hydrogen production platform that can produce 85,000 tons of green hydrogen per year

Netherlands-based engineering firm Iv-Offshore & Energy has unveiled a newly designed offshore hydrogen platform capable of producing 85,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year from offshore wind power.

According to information released by Iv-Offshore & Energy, the platform has a capacity of 500MW and a production capacity of 10 tons of green hydrogen per hour; the green hydrogen produced by the platform in one day can power more than 300,000 hydrogen-fueled vehicles for It travels at least 100 kilometers.

The size of the upper platform of the offshore hydrogen production platform is 80 meters long, 40 meters wide and 30 meters high – comparable to the 1.3GW HVDC converter station designed by the company for the UK Sofia offshore wind farm developed by RWE, and the overall weight of the platform (including The upper platform and jacket foundation) are about 21,000 tons and can be installed in the sea area with a water depth of 45 meters.

At present, Iv-Offshore & Energy has completed the complete design of the offshore hydrogen production platform, from process design, integration of electrolyzer system to equipment balance, jacket and auxiliary system design.

Now that offshore wind farms are getting further and further offshore, the huge amount of electricity generated by offshore wind farms cannot simply be fed into the onshore high-voltage grid during peak hours, the company said.
