EDF Renewables North America has secured 1GW of solar and battery storage capacity in the latest large-scale Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) tender in New York.
The award came from three solar photovoltaic (PV) projects with a total installed capacity of 940 MW, each with 20 MW of co-located battery storage, the company said, adding that the awarded capacity accounted for the total awarded in the tender. nearly 40% of capacity.
Specifically, the tender will support the construction of EDF Renewables' 2,000-acre 350-megawatt Columbia Solar Park in Herkimer County. The Ridge View complex is another 350-megawatt photovoltaic farm scheduled to be installed in Niagara County, while the 240-megawatt Rick Road solar farm will be built to generate electricity in St. Lawrence County.
The plants are scheduled to come online by the end of 2025 and, when operating at full capacity, meet the needs of more than 243,000 average New York households, EDF Renewables said.
New York's tender, touted as the state's largest land-based renewable energy purchase to date, resulted in the selection of 22 large-scale projects representing 2.4GW of solar and about 160MW of battery storage capacity. It is estimated that their implementation will generate more than $2.7 billion in private investment in New York.
