China 


Shenzhen Ruiding Electronics Co., Ltd. invested tens of millions of dollars in automated power lithium battery production lines to meet the needs of volume customers


In 2019, Ruiding Electronics will adjust the focus of its product line to power lithium batteries, and in order to increase production capacity to meet the rapid interaction of orders from more volume customers, it will introduce an automated lithium battery pack production line that can handle the assembly of 10,000 18650 lithium cells per day, increase multiple high-power discharge test points, and increase the MES traceability system to ensure the transparency of the steps in the order production execution process.


Panasonic plans to increase factory capacity in China, adding two power battery production lines.


In late 2018, according to foreign media reports, Panasonic plans to spend "hundreds of millions of dollars" to deploy two new production lines in its battery factories in China. In late 2015, Panasonic invested 2.7 billion yuan to build its first power battery plant in China. The plant has a capacity of nearly 5 GWh, which can meet the demand of carrying 200,000 electric vehicles, and with the addition of two new production lines, the capacity is expected to increase by 80 percent. On March 13 this year, Panasonic's Dalian plant was officially supplied in mass production. In addition, Panasonic has two other power battery factories in China, both in Jiangsu Province: the factory in Suzhou, which is dedicated to producing power batteries for Tesla, will be put into operation in 2017 and will reach 35GWh capacity in this year and next year; the other factory is located in Wuxi, which officially started construction at the end of September this year and is expected to start production in September 2019. By then, the plant will have an annual production capacity of 30Gh and an output value of about 100 billion RMB.   


LG Chem chased the investment of 7.2 billion in China to build another battery plant. 


In early January, LG Chem announced that it plans to invest another 1.2 trillion won (about 7.2 billion yuan) by 2020 for the construction of a power battery plant and a small battery plant in China's Nanjing Xingang Development Zone. LG Chem said the investment in China is mainly to respond to the growing demand for batteries from new energy vehicles and electronic products. 


Samsung intends to invest in power battery and MLCC projects in Tianjin, layout in 2020. 


Last December news, Tianjin and Samsung China revealed that Samsung intends to adjust part of the product structure in Tianjin, investment in the construction of power battery production lines and automotive MLCC plant (multilayer ceramic capacitors) and other new projects, with an additional investment of $2.4 billion. Previously, some industry insiders said that Samsung is eyeing the market after the withdrawal of subsidies for new energy vehicles in China in 2020. Samsung SDI also clearly stated in its first quarter earnings report this year, "We will prepare for the end of (China's) new energy vehicle subsidy policy in 2020." In addition, Samsung Electro-Mechanics Co. is investing in the construction of an MLCC plant for automobiles in the Tianjin Development Zone. The project is expected to be completed by the end of next year and start production in 2020. Upon completion, Tianjin will become one of Samsung Electro-Mechanics' major overseas MLCC production bases.   


Ningde Times and Honda are cooperating to develop pure electric car batteries and will build a base in Tochigi Prefecture in the first half of the year. 


China's Ningde Times New Energy Technology Company (CATL), the world's largest vehicle battery company, announced on February 5 that it will cooperate with Honda to jointly develop lithium-ion batteries for pure electric vehicles (EVs), etc., the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported on February 10. Ningde Times will supply batteries for future pure electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHVs) from Honda. Ningde Times supplies batteries to major global automotive companies such as BMW and Volkswagen in Germany. In the future, it will strengthen trade with Japanese companies, including Honda, to develop the world market. Ningde Times and Honda formally reached an agreement on the 4th. Ningde Times will supply 56 gigawatt hours (GWh) of batteries to Honda under a long-term contract ending in 2027. To complement Honda's research and development, Ningde Times will build a base within Tochigi Prefecture in the first half of 2019.   


Geely cooperates with Qianjiang Motorcycle to develop power lithium battery project. 


On January 28, Qianjiang Motorcycle issued the "Announcement of Related Transaction on Holding Company Entrusted with Development of Power Lithium Battery and System Project", which stated that Qianjiang Motorcycle's holding company Taizhou Qianjiang New Energy Research Institute Co. ("Jingzhou Geely") signed a "Technology Development (Commissioning) Contract". Jingzhou Geely intends to make Qianjiang New Energy Company its battery supplier and entrust the power lithium battery development project to Qianjiang New Energy Company for a contract consideration of RMB28.92.12 million (including tax). The technical contract between the two parties covers the development of soft pack ternary 50Ah lithium battery, soft pack ternary 37Ah lithium battery, soft pack ternary 47Ah lithium battery, 48V start-stop lithium battery and above lithium battery system.  


Star source material will supply more than 40 million square meters of lithium battery separator products to VN Technology in 2019. 


On January 28, the latest announcement of Star Source Material showed that the company signed a cooperation agreement with Fu Neng Technology (Ganzhou) Co., Ltd ("Fu Neng Technology"), which determined the procurement plan, purchase unit price and other specific elements of lithium battery diaphragm products for 2019. The contract shows that the parties agreed that the guaranteed supply demand for lithium battery diaphragm products for 2019 is not less than 40,000,000 square meters, and the total annual procurement volume is allowed to be adjusted within 20% due to the influence of factors such as market, customer demand and national policies. Star Source Material said that if the agreement is fully implemented, the contract amount is expected to be about RMB102 million, which is expected to have a positive impact on the company's operating results in 2019. The cooperation will provide a good basis for the subsequent more comprehensive and in-depth cooperation between the company and VN Technology.   


Weifeng 2 billion to build power battery line, to be put into operation in August 2019. 


In mid-January news, Shenzhen Weifeng New Energy Co., Ltd. and Hubei Enshi City Government officially signed an investment agreement for power battery production project. The project has a total investment of about 2 billion yuan and is scheduled to be put into operation in August 2019. Project planning: By the end of August 2019, 4 power battery production lines will be completed. 2020, 2 new power battery cell production lines and solid state cell production lines will be completed. 2021, 4 new power battery production lines and 2 power battery cell production lines will be completed. Initially, the project is expected to form a complete industrial chain system in 2022, and the annual revenue can exceed 4 billion yuan. Meanwhile, Weifeng New Energy will put into production solid-state battery cells in 2020, and is the first company in China to open the mass production of solid-state battery cells.  


Fujian Longyan Goge micro-button investment in the construction of 400 million micro lithium battery project. 


In mid-January news, Longyan Gaoge Microbutton Technology Co., Ltd ("Longyan Gaoge Microbutton") invested in the construction of micro lithium battery project settled in Fujian Liancheng Industrial Park and started construction, the project has a total investment of 400 million yuan. The project is divided into two power station phase construction, the first phase investment of 200 million yuan to build an annual output of 30 million buckle battery production project, planned for completion of trial production early this year; the second phase investment of 200 million yuan, the construction of an annual output of 30 million pin battery production project. After all the second phase projects are completed and put into production, the annual output value is expected to reach 500 million yuan.     


Europe and America 


Switzerland Blackstone plans to invest 200 million euros to build a large power battery factory in Europe. 


On January 14, Blackstone Resources AG ("Blackstone") announced that it will invest 200 million euros (approximately 1.541 billion yuan) in the construction of a large power battery factory in Erfurt, Thuringia, Germany. Blackstone hopes to receive financial support from the European Union's Research and Development Fund and the German government at all levels for the subsequent development of the plant. batteries needed for electric vehicles. According to Blackstone, according to the plan, after the completion of the first phase of the project, the plant can produce 100 million cells per year to meet the needs of 2.5-10 million new energy electric vehicles, and the subsequent stages of capacity expansion will be adjusted according to market demand.   


VW set up power battery production department to adapt to the mass production of electric vehicles. 


In late January, Volkswagen said it will set up a division to produce power batteries for electric vehicles. The company is preparing for mass production of electric vehicles and an overhaul of its parts division, which currently produces engines, transmissions and steering components. VW plans to invest 8.7 billion euros (about $985.45 million) in developing electric vehicle parts by 2020. The newly opened battery division will be responsible for the manufacture of batteries and battery packs and oversee the recycling of old batteries. The Volkswagen brand plans to invest more than 11 billion euros ($12.5 billion) in electrification, digitalization, autonomous driving and mobility services by 2023, of which 9 billion euros will be spent on the electrification of models. The Volkswagen brand currently has two fully electric vehicles. By 2025, this number will increase to around 20 models, with planned production of more than one million vehicles. In China, a core market for the Volkswagen brand, Volkswagen is building two electric vehicle plants in Anting and Foshan, which are expected to be operational by 2020.   


Mercedes-Benz Poland to establish a battery factory, plans to invest more than 1 billion euros:. 


On January 22, the reporter learned from Mercedes-Benz officials that Mercedes-Benz Cars will establish a battery factory in Jawor, Poland, thus expanding its global battery production network to nine. Mercedes-Benz plans to invest more than 1 billion euros (about $1.2 billion) to create a global battery production network, including global plants in China, Germany and the United States. Currently, Mercedes-Benz has a global battery production network in place, including the No. 1 and No. 2 battery plants in Kamenz, Germany (the latter to be completed in 2018), the Türkheim battery plant in Germany, the Beijing battery plant, the Tuscaloosa battery plant in the U.S. and the Thailand battery plant. These plants can prepare battery packs for export in due course, as needed. Mercedes-Benz plans to launch more than 50 electric vehicles by 2022, introducing at least one electric vehicle model for each of its models. The first electrified model to be launched will be the all-electric EQC, which will be produced in 2019 by the Bremen plant in Germany and the BBAC plant in Beijing.


SK Innovation, a South Korean battery maker, intends to invest an additional $5 billion in the United States:. 


Jan. 8 (Bloomberg) -- South Korean battery maker SK Innovation has previously announced a major investment plan for its U.S. plants, according to foreign media reports. But the company is now considering additional investment, a move designed to boost its competitiveness enough to compete with Tesla's Gigafactory 1 superfactory in Nevada. SK Innovation is now considering expanding its investment in a more high-profile way, perhaps with the goal of being "on par" with Tesla and Panasonic. Automotive News reports that "SK Innovation is considering investing up to $5 billion in its U.S. manufacturing operations, its chief executive said Friday (Jan. 4, local time)."   


Southeast Asia and India 


India plans to build its first lithium-ion battery mega-factory. 


India plans to build the country's first gigawatt-hour-class lithium-ion battery plant for electric vehicles, the Economic Times reported on Jan. 23. The project will be part of the "Make in India" initiative, which can improve the efficiency of domestic production of important components of electric vehicles. Rajan Duggal, Chairman of the LIBCOIN consortium, commented: "We plan to be the largest lithium-ion battery factory in India. We plan to become the largest manufacturer of lithium-ion batteries in India and a first mover in the market. The profits generated by this project in the Indian automotive industry are certainly exciting." The battery plant will increase its capacity from an initial 1 gigawatt hour to an eventual 30 gigawatt hours. Its start-up date for production along with other details have not been announced and the company is in discussions in this regard.   


Aoyama Industries Invests $3 Billion in Stainless Steel and Electric Vehicle Battery Plant in India. 


On January 18, Xiang Guangda, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Castle Peak Industries, announced at the Gandhinagar Summit 2019 in Gujarat that it will invest $3 billion in Dholera (Tolera) to build a stainless steel and electric vehicle battery plant. The investment will reportedly be made jointly by Aoyama Industries' Indian joint venture, ChromeniSteel Private Limited (ChromeniSteel). ChromeniSteel Private Limited is currently involved in setting up a large stainless steel complex in Mundra, Kutch district. The project was started after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding during the Gujarat Summit 2017. The Kromeny Steel Pvt. Ltd. project is a major leap forward in realizing Prime Minister Moody's dream of "Make in India". Within a year of signing the MoU, Aoyama Industries began construction of the first phase of the project, which is expected to be completed in a record time of 14 months.   


Indonesia aims to build a lithium battery hub, targeting 20% of domestically produced vehicles for electric vehicles by 2025. 


On January 29, Indonesia's Deputy Minister of Industry said that Indonesia's new electric vehicle policy will be finalized soon and that the government will provide financial incentives to foreign automakers in the future. In addition, the Indonesian government plans to offer tax breaks to battery manufacturers, among other things, as a way to create the image of a lithium battery center. Harjanto, Indonesia's deputy minister of industry, said, "Our goal is to have 20 percent of all vehicles produced in Indonesia to be electric by 2025." He also mentioned that he has already started discussions with Japanese and South Korean automakers. harjanto said that the $4 billion (26.8 billion yuan) lithium battery project currently being built in Sulawesi is expected to be completed in the next 16 months.
