On July 20, data released by the European Automobile Association (ACEA) showed that in the second quarter of 2022, the sales of pure electric vehicles in the EU continued to increase, accounting for 9.9% of the total passenger car registrations, compared with 7.5% in the same period last year.
ACEA said this was due to a shrinking market share of petrol vehicles and a decline in total vehicle sales.
The data showed that in the second quarter of this year, the market share of petrol and diesel vehicles in the EU fell to 55.8% from 62.0% in the same period a year earlier, and the combined sales of both models fell by more than 1/5.
In contrast, pure electric vehicle sales rose 11.1 percent to 233,413 units. Of the new cars sold, two-fifths were electric vehicles, with hybrid vehicles being the most popular with a market share of 22.6%.
