German system integrator Badenova has completed the construction of 2.4MW of rooftop solar on the roof of its Europark stadium, the German football club Freiburg has announced. The facility is the second-largest football stadium photovoltaic system in the world, after the 2.5MW rooftop array at the "Mane Garrincha" National Stadium in Brasilia.
It is reported that the Freiburg rooftop photovoltaic system is expected to be connected to the grid in September. About 6,000 heterojunction solar modules from the Swiss company Meyer Burger were installed on the 15,000-square-meter roof. Badenova has invested around 2.3 million euros in the system and has 20 years of operation.
