Macquarie Green Investment Group (GIG) has partnered with renewable energy developer Bluestone Energy to jointly deploy up to 2GW of battery storage projects in the UK.
The two companies have signed a joint development agreement and already have 970MW of projects in early development stages with grid-connected services.
GIG brings its technical know-how from its experience in battery storage, which already has several projects, and has partnered with Engie and Fluence in France, as well as the energy storage joint venture between AES in the US and Siemens in Germany.
Meanwhile, Bluestone will support the development of utility-scale wind, solar and battery storage projects.
The partnership aims to facilitate further integration of renewable energy capacity by providing flexibility and stability to the UK grid in support of the country's 2050 net-zero emissions target.
