PPC Renewables, the green energy arm of Greek power company PPC, said it had launched a tender to build and commission a 550-megawatt solar park on the site of the former Tolemida lignite mine in the northwest of the country.
The estimated value of the project is 216 million euros, excluding VAT and photovoltaic panels, PPC Renewables said in tender documents released earlier this week.
The Tolemida mines are located in the cities of Jodea and Kozani in western Macedonia, Greece.
Contractors are required to carry out project studies, construction, procurement, transportation and installation of other equipment through to facility commissioning, as well as construction and maintenance of grid connections, including substations.
Bidding deadline is noon on September 30.
In June, Hellenic Power reached a binding agreement to acquire the 112 MW renewable energy portfolio of Volterra AE, the energy arm of Greek construction group Avax, and transfer it to PPC Renewables.
PPC's current business plan expects its renewable energy capacity to increase to 7.2 GW by 2024 and 9.5 GW by 2026.
At the end of 2021, the PPC will increase its capital by 1.35 billion euros and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will contribute 75 million euros, aiming to accelerate renewable energy investment in Greece and neighboring markets in South-Eastern Europe.
